This October sees the return of the horror anthology that is ‘ABC’S of Death’ which features 26 shorts by 26 independent directors. This movie has ignited a revolution in film-making by allowing passionate, independent film-makers to have the opportunity to showcase their potential talents. I live in the UK and I woke up around 5am on a Friday morning to witness one of the biggest Q&A’s in the history of Cinema. 26 directors (along with actors & producers) took to the stage at Fantastic Fest 2014 in Austin, Texas (The largest Genre festival in the US). The stage was filled with people from all different races, creeds, nationalities, religions, genders, age and beliefs. Together they talked about their individual contributions, The Highs & Lows of filming what they made and what it meant for them to be a part of the anthology. What I saw that morning was a group of hungry film-makers who despite all their differences shared the same goal and that was to contribute to this new revolution in Cinema.
It also allows these filmmakers to go all out and showcase their talents the way THEY want to without boundaries or limits. Some are animated, some don’t make sense, most are pretty much all-out violent but ALL are imaginative and brave.
I would love to see this as an annual event using different director’s every time as this Is a great opportunity for independent film makers to get their foot through the door of the business. It’s about time that someone stood up for all the unsung talent that eat, sleep and breathe Cinema. The ABC’s of Death franchise allows this opportunity and will be the origin for some of the biggest names in the future of cinema.
