Friday 10th January-John Carpenters The Thing (1982)
I have made 2 reviews for this movie..1 spoiler free and one discussing how much I freckin love this movie...We horror fanatics must be aware that there are at least 15% of horror fans that are yet to See 'The Thing' so we must respect this fact..I begin with a flashback.....
When I was very young (around 8) I was watching kids films every Saturday at my friend's place when one afternoon we found a V/H/S of a really creepy face...We ran down stairs and asked his dad if he could show this to us....He face went white as a ghost and said 'Absolutely Not' and then had a go at us for finding the V/H/S...I was very curious and determined to see this movie and why the idea of us kids watching this was that offensive to my friends dad....Luckily a week later it came on TV one late Saturday night...of corse I am referring to The Horror Phenomenon that is John Carpenters The Thing.

So it came on TV that Saturday night and it was like 1am (I remember it like it was yesterday I swear) I sat close(ish) to the TV, I loved the opening when the ship crashes on earth and you see that title burn on screen, Then a crazy Norwegian shooting at a dog gets one in the Eye ('Maybe we're at war with Norway') I was really unsettled when went to the Other base ( Norway NOT Sweden MacReady) When you see the bodies and the guy sitting on the chair.
Then the dog incident occurs...I swear when you see the imitated dog for the 1st time as he screams out I was so amazed and frightened at the same time, I had never before seen such realistic creature effects. When Bennings is being imitated and let's out that Iconic scream in the snow, We then see how us humans start turning on one another through paranoia and fear which is another great thing (NPI) that stands out this movie, How in some case we'd turn on our friends in order to survive ('Nobody trust anybody now...we're all very tired')

Then it's possibly my all-time favourite moment in horror...CLEAR! From Dr Cooper getting his hands bitten off by a freckin' torso to Norris head trying to run away like a spider well....I was speechless...Thankfully Palmer spoke for me....'You gotta be fuckin' kidding'. The blood Scene was yet another frightening experience that we won't forget anytime EVER! The nerves of the crew and us watching was edge of your seat terror..The way Palmer was reviled made us all jump our of our seats. I found it terrifying yet funny how Garry and Childs are on the couch jumping around panicking like 14 year-old girls at a cancelled Justin Bieber Concert...I felt sorry for windows the most in this film..when he's being dangled in the air and Then he's sitting In the corner covered in alien blood and gets fried like that...very upsetting to watch...that scene did end with a fantastic line from Garry.."I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time, I'd rather not spend the rest of the winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!"
Blair's imitation scene could've lasted a bit longer I though, Great creature effect but their should've been a decent fight scene considering that he was the last imitation, most of the imitations were taken out too quickly in my view. The final scene was great with Childs and MacReady who had been arguing throughout the entire movie just sitting together knowing how screwed they are...'Why don't we just...Wait here for a little while...See What happens.

This was the 1st full-on violent movie that I had ever seen and for me it the 1st time I truly Embraced Horror as I was scared of watching them at the time (I was very young at this point remember Lol) this Is a movie that will stand the test of time, you could show this to someone 20 years from now and it will still scare and amaze them at the same time. If you know someone who hasn't seen this then you gotta show them it IMMEDIATELY. This is however my 2ND favourite John Carpenter movie but it's still considered by most in the horror community as an all time favourite.
