Wednesday 15th January-A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984) Spoilers
Let's face it..This is one of the biggest movies in the history of the genre. It is hard to come across those within the horror community who dislike this one movie (some of the sequels sucked obviously) It is said by some that if it wasn't for the success of this movie that there would not be a Lord Of the Rings Trilogy as apparently this movie saved New Line Cinema in a big way...seriously. This movie began a franchise that would entertained horror fans for 2 decades and cause many sleepless night too Lol....and it's Johnny Depp's 1st movie appearance (I bet over half of Jonny Depp's 'Fans' are still not aware of this).
You all know the drill, A group of teenagers are having bad dreams about a horribly burnt man with a dirty brown hat and a glove with razors for fingers where they end up in a boiler room to be stalked and tormented. One night Tina Grey invites Nancy and Glen for a sleep over ( Tina's jock boyfriend Rod crashes the sleepover) On the night Tina is ripped apart by Freddy in a dream which means she's dead in real life, Everyone thinks Rod killed her as he was in the room with her when she died.

Nancy is then tormented by Freddy, At school, in her bath and even on the phone...With Tongue Lol. She is then informed by her mom Marge Thompson that this man is In fact The Springwood Slasher Freddy Krueger, A child murderer that Was freed on a warrant issue and was hunted down and burned alive by the parents of Elm Street, Nancy then tries to figure out how to stop him which includes reading up on survival books, Drinking as much coffee as humanly possible and pulling a Kevin Mcallister on her house when she attempts to pull Freddy out of the dream world which leads to a final confrontation which I thought was....Kinda lame...But the ending scared the shit out me Lol.
The first time I saw nightmare I was pissing in my pants throughout (Not Literally of corse Lol) from the opening scene with the lamb in the boiler room to when Marge Thompson was pulled back into the house by Freddy. The deaths in the film were great especially Glens Fountain of blood death. But here's an interesting question, Which do you think was a better death, Tina's where she's spinning in mid air and being dragged along the ceiling or the fountain of blood. Of course Heather Langenkamp and Robert Englund performances were fantastic and the soundtrack is a classic.
4.5/5 Wes Cravens Masterpiece.
