Dark Skies (2013)
One thing that scares me the most in horror is Aliens, the mix of sci-fi and horror is sometimes the most intense and scariest and it's movies like 'The Thing' & 'Invasion Of The Body Snatchers' that confirm this. Scott Stewart & Blumhouse Productions attempted to test this theory with Dark Skies.
The Barret family are a typical American suburban family who live in a regular neighbourhood and are going through some financial problems and the husband is desperately seeking employment...but that becomes the least of their worries when strange events begin to occur in their house in the middle of the night, which then lead to individual members of the family having unexplained acts of madness during the day which even catches the attention of the neighbours and the local community...At this point everyone thinks that this family are insane and that the children are being abused by the parents. In time the family figure out that they are being harassed by visitors from the stars and they intend to abduct one of them, so they do what they can to fight back against the Alien threat and protect one another.
This was a pretty decent horror movie, it defiantly had it scares and ' What The F' moments...one of the issues I have with this movie is the lack of creature design when It came to the Aliens themselves, they look almost similar to the ones you see on those discovery channel documentaries. The ending was good, I liked Keri Russell's performance in this movie also and I liked that the neighbours actually took notice to what was going on with the family too. I enjoyed this movie and I think it's worth seeing at least once but I'm not sure if I would revisit it anytime soon
3/5 An decent but not Brilliant attempt at sci-fi horror
